Microgravity Application – Barite/Chromite Exploration

Published interpretations of high-density minerals, such as barite and chromite, are numerous. All are based primarily on individual hypotheses/concepts, limited by regional configurations of sparse well control and/or on projections of regional structural trends from surface outcrop areas. Advances in gravity and positional data acquisition, high resolution terrain data acquisition and structural modeling techniques have been instrumental in developing microgravity surveys as a valuable tool in barite/chromite exploration. Exploration utilizing the integration of geology and gravity data develops a drilling strategy that could replace reconnaissance drilling with targeted drilling. This in turn would lead to cost reduction and optimization of the explorer’s time.
